because of our love of no shoes, things that grow, the earth, green hills, good food, staying home, eating more than three meals a day, and a family love of all things tolkien. it started with a nickname given in a time long ago. my husband was called "hobbit" by his brother. he was the first. then we were wed, then came our daughter, and we carried on the hobbit tradition by naming her after a flower (though admittedly we hadn't deliberately done so. we just liked the name and how it sounded. only later did we connect another hobbit like thing we had done). i think we'd both agree that i'm less hobbit like and more elf like, but then again my hobbit husband is rubbing off on me.
